Chris Barnes from Exchange Chambers has secured two high value settlements for below knee amputees.
In the first case, Chris’ client, a 20-year-old man, was injured in a road traffic accident. After a series of operations, he underwent transtibial (below knee) amputation. Chris and his instructing solicitor, Andrew Dowd of Thorneycroft Solicitors worked collaboratively with the defendant, putting in place a rehabilitation programme and trialling the highest quality prosthetics. The case settled for £2.16 million with prosthetics provision including an Empower (powered ankle) prosthesis, at a repeating total cost of £83,000 every 6 years.
In the second case, Chris’ client, aged 52, suffered multiple fractures, the worst of which led to numerous operations and then a below knee amputation. Following a successful trial of an Empower prosthesis, the settlement of £2.07 million again included provision for such a prosthesis in the long term.
Chris was instructed by Ann Allister of Carpenters Solicitors. Chris is a member of the personal injury team at Exchange Chambers.
