Following the Supreme Court judgment in July of last year in the Unison case it was only a matter of time before we returned to the previous state of a system in disaray. Notwithstanding the continuing impact of an unlawful imposition of fees we on the Northern Cicuit are now starting to have multi-day trials vacated at short notice due to 'a lack of judicial resources'. Surely, it is now time to re-activate those fee paid employment judges who were put into stasis. I am told that there is likely to soon be a recruitment round in any event. Regrettably that will inevitably have a long lead-in and as we rapidly approach the anniversary of a judgment that shouldn't have taken many by surprise one can not help but feel aggrieved. The system was originally designed to enable litigants to obtain justice swiftly. If the current trend is indicative of what's to come then we are all in for a bumpy ride.
