Andrew Petterson from Exchange Chambers has successfully prosecuted an aggravated burglary case at Sheffield Crown Court sitting at Doncaster before HHJ Kelson QC.
The defendant received 12 years’ imprisonment for the aggravated burglary of a 79-year-old man after the 3 day trial. After forcing his way into the victim’s address, he beat the man with a pole together with another man. The victim’s safe was taken containing thousands of pounds worth of cash and sentimental items including a watch and the victim’s medals. The victim sadly passed away as a consequence of unrelated medical conditions in 2018. HHJ Kelson described the offence as “wicked” and the Defendant as a “repulsive coward”.
The Defendant was also sentenced for a robbery committed in April 2020. On that occasion he got into the victim’s car directed him to a quiet and secluded road before threatening him with a knife, assaulting him and stealing his wallet. The Defendant pleaded guilty to that matter when it was listed for trial and was sentenced to an additional 1 year imprisonment.
