Since its beginning in 1996, Advocate (as was the Bar Pro Bono Unit) has received committed support from donors who recognise and support the important work carried out by Advocate staff and volunteers to ensure access to justice. As a way to show thanks and recognise the dedication of supporting chambers and individuals, the Pro Bono Patrons scheme was launched in March 2018.
Advocate is the only national charity to provide legal help in all areas of law and in all courts and tribunals. Furthermore, it seeks no government funding and is an essential institution of the Bar, helping members of the public who would otherwise have no way to navigate the justice system. Without such core regular funding provided by our Pro Bono Patrons, our work would not be possible.
Our Gold Circle of Pro Bono Patrons are those who have supported Advocate’s work with donations of £8,000 or more. Members as follows:
- Blackstone Chambers
- Brick Court Chambers, Inaugural Patron
- Essex Court Chambers
- Quadrant Chambers
